About My Many Family Lines
My Smith Family came from Germany.According to the first census the family is found in Theodore was born in Hesse. He was born about 1838. At some point Theodore went to England for reasons unknown. He met and married Ann Hart there. They had 8 known children. They were:
1} Joseph Jandorf Smith b. July 1,1876 in Frostburg MD
2} John Thomas Smith b. 1875 in Frostburg MD other sources say England 3}Frederick Smith b.November 1868 in England
4} Theodore Smith b. December 1866 in England
 5}Sarah Smith b. about 1864
 6} Elizabeth Smith b. about April 1879
 7}Anna Smith b. about 1871
 8} Fanny Smith b. about 1874
Some of these children we cannot locate after the 1880 census for Frostburg Alleghany MD. Theodore and Ann appear in the 1900 census for Steubenville Jefferson County Ohio as does Theodore,Frederick and Elizabeth who was married to William Butler.
John Thomas Smith appears in Hocking County Ohio in the 1900 census, where he seemed to stay until his death until 1955. After 1900 Theodore and Ann cannot be found and neither can their children.
Joseph married in 1903 and later made his home in Jackson County Ohio where he died 19 March 1963.
I am still continuing to search for this family and hope to find much more on them. I am also branching the lines out so that it covers my Mom`s side of the family as well. The farthest one back was William R Hart and he changed his last name to Caldwell. His wife appeared in the 1880 Johnson County Kentucky census with some of their children and listed as a widow. Her last name was spelled Culwell. Their descendants would later come to use both spellings...Caldwell and Culwell.
